I got a 1947 ZTU that is on my list of things to do and just wondering if it's worth it to put it back together again. It's complete, just had the engine torn apart for a few years, crank turned and new main bearings, plus a new battery box cover and some other misc parts, missing one back tire but I have a full set of front and rear weights. Shed kept too. No sentimental value, just one of those impulse buys I wish I never did as I don't have the time anymore.

It might be worth what you paid for it. How much it's worth = how badly you want to get rid of it. (Average unrestored Z, $500 to $1000)

It's one of those things where we have enough tractors anyways, and it's just something else taking up space in the shop.

Just out of idle curiosity what is one worth completely restored. I bought one and am working on it now and will probably resale it unless these were very rare. If it is a rare piece then I will keep it for shows and pulling in the antique class.

John, The ZTUs really do not seem to be that rare of a tractor but they are fun to have, light in weight, and easy to travel around with. Of course, everyone"s opinion on the above is different as well. They will be more densely populated in some areas versus others. It was always described to me that the ZT and the ZA units were the "starter tractors" for collectors wanting to restore their first machine. Everyone will have a different price and most may have a wide range. But ultimately, it depends upon the audience you have, how far people have to drive to get it, how well it is advertised, and of course the quality of the restoration job. I figure if a guy can cover his costs and make a hundred or so, let it go. Once again, my opinion and it may be shot to smithereens by others. LOL

I was wondering what everybody else was paying. I paid $500 for a stuck complete one, I saw a stuck complete one sell on eBay for $650 but it was right by the Gold Rush show last year, and I've seen stuck ones sell for $50. I paid $75 for my ZAU. I have not seen many restored or good runners sell for more than the $1500 mark, but there is the occasional $2500 one that is prefect in every way. I like MM but what trips my trigger is CASE, so I'm selling the MM to buy a fairly rare CASE tractor for my series collection.
