Fuel lines on 135 diesel?

I put a new primer pump on my UK 135 a couple of years ago and finally got around to fixing some annoying leaks. I'm also putting a new fuel shut off on the bottom of the tank because the old one is stripped (plastic) and won't shut off for changing filters etc. I picked up a couple of "olives" as MF calls them to put in the primer pump. I'm not sure the old pump used them and it didn't leak. The line from the fuel shut off to the inlet on the primer is a plastic line with ferules on it and the line from the pump/sediment bowl back to the tank is a steel line. Is this normal? It looks like the ferules seat against the inside of the fuel shut off and primer pump without the rubber olives but I'm not sure. Maybe some of you MF experts can help me out? Also, it looks like the aluminum fuel shut off just threads into the tank without any kind of sealer. Is this correct? Thanks in advance. Dave

Hi Dave,
Plastic line to the lift pump and steel from the pump is correct. The plastic line will accept the brass "olives", without a problem. But with the steel line, I would be using a couple of rubber olives, as they tend to seal better if the pipe has had several replacement brass olives fitted to it over the years. The pipe can tend to become marked where the old olives were pinched ou on the pipe over time. If you use the rubber olives on the plastic line, don't tighten the nut too much, as it will restrict the fuel flow in the line, as over-tightening will "crimp" the pipe.
As for the tap, a small amount of thread tape on the threads before fitting will do the job, three or four wraps will be fine, regards,
Evan.

Thanks. I had to order a new plastic fuel line. I was referring to the rubber olives. They are used on the steel lines and the brass ferules don't normally need anything else. The rubber olives won't work on the plastic line. I was looking at parts on the dealers computer. I like a parts book a lot better. Dave
