I picked up a 175 Perkins gas around two years ago. Its a runner, but could use TLC. What Ive been trying to understand is the 15.5-38 tires on the back. Comparing other 175s in my research I understand that 28s were the common tire and what I might have is a 175 high crop/ high arch. How common was this version. IIRC its a 1968.

After they stopped the 180 they started making 175s in a regular version with 28 inch wheels or a row crop version with 38s the last couple of years of production.

You mentioned after the end of the 180 production run yet the model I have is mid range in the 175 production run and the information and serial number listings I have found in both printed form and electronically state that the 175/ 180 production run coincided from 64 to 75. From what I understand the were basically the same tractor with the 180 having high rubber and elevated open station.

Everything you have said is correct and you have a 175 high arch. They probably aren't as common as the standard clearance, but aren't rare by any means.

Upon further review would I be wrong in saying this was prevalent in the 40, 50, 65, and 85 and carried through the 150, 155, 165, and 175 as well as the next series in the 255, 265, 275, and 285?

The Ferguson 40, MF 50, 65, 85, and S90 could all be lo or hi clearance row crop models. I never saw an MF 155, the 150, 165 and 175 could be either lo or high too. The 255 and 265 Ive only seen with lo 28 inch rear wheels but there might have been a row crop model. Boss had a hi 275 model, not sure if any were made lo. The 285 and 1085 were the same height and tire/wheels wise but operator platform was flat on the 1085. The 285 operator sat lower like the 255, 265, and 275 models.
