Hello, all.

I've been browsing the forums a while, finally got around to registering.

I purchased an old Massey-Ferguson -- 1969 vintage, MF40?

It's all there, it's usable as-is, but it needs a whole bunch of TLC.

I'm a fair shade tree mechanic so I guess this is just another pet project with practical benefits

I rebuilt the very leaky CAV fuel injection pump and cleaned up a few things here and there. Runs well enough.

Anyway, I'll be asking a few questions here and there, and maybe I can answer a few as well...

Welcome, MF made a really nice utility tractor, same basic design still built today.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to this adventure

I think the MF 40's were a switch-over from the MH 50, and only produced in '56 and '57; And then went to the MF 50 from there ('57-64), but I can't really tell for sure from the Tractor Data site.

Every time I try to post a reply/quote message I get an error saying I've tripped the spam protection filters. Must be my newbie status or something

Lucky you...I've got a 40 in the shed that runs quite nicely but is suffering from a bit of rust. I've had the loader and backhoe buckets rebuilt but the biggest issue is the brakes....which don't work. They work sufficiently to slow the thing down but not well enough to stop the thing moving when it's working or parked on a slope. Which is annoying!

Oh and access to work on the engine is dreadful.
