MF 2705 Transmission Slips

I bought a 2705 on auction for a very reasonable price. Now dealer disclosed that the transmission slips. I would think that is the three speed they call a power shift. Now I need to find out how difficult a repair it is or if I should just sell it to someone who can fix it themself. Former owner used it for an auger tractor. What do I check first? Is it a split to fix? Are parts expensive?

Is it the straight eight speed, or the twenty-four speed power shift? If it has Low/intermediate/High shift lever it's the twenty-four speed. Oil pressure is used to APPLY the low or high speed clutch pack and RELEASE the spring applied intermediate clutch pack. The last 2805 I had apart years ago the low and intermediate clutch plates had failed do to the piston oil rings that had failed that allowed BOTH clutches to apply at the same time. If that's happened a single split will be needed to remove the three speed shift assembly for tear down repair. If reverse does not work, that's usually caused by the low plate failure as low and reverse work only in low range. Only ONE clutch is applied at a time on a correctly working transmission. I've never tried it but the twenty-four speed models SHOULD be able to be pull/roll started as the spring applied intermediate clutch will be applied when engine is off, no matter if the shift lever is in Low or High range.

Thanks. It is the 24 speed. I will pick it up next week and then I will know more. Your information will be appreciated.

I had mine apart a few years ago really wasnt that bad if you are somewhat mechanical. The problem with mine ended up being the large piston o ring had failed then that led to two failed friction discs.Dont remember it being really expensive for the parts.I ended up doing a clutch job at the same time.If the rest of the tractor is in good condition it might be worth doing it yourself.Good luck.

Check your main clutch setting also my 2705 acted like the power shift was slipping but it was the main clutch the clutch can not be set by the clutch cable it hast to be set on the pressure plate
