front tires for MH 22

Hi All,
This is my first post. I'm just beginning to restore my wife's grandfather's 1950 Massey-Harris 22 GR (switched to propane when new, however). It will be a slow learning process as I find time.

My question here involves front tires. It's probably a simple question, but I searched around and didn't find much. When I got it, it had flat 5.00-15 three-rib tires. I acquired an owner's manual, which states that the Row Crop version (which I guess I have based on the "GR") should have 4.00-15 on the front. Also a few websites confirm this. What size are others using? Is there a good reason for me to stick with 5.00-15 tires like it had or should I follow my intuition and put the original size back on?

Also, I'm happy to get any advice you have on tire brands and such.

Agree with Wonder. The wider the tire, the better flotation, therefore ride. Generally easier to steer with wider tires. But if you are just interested in restoring the tractor
for shows, use whatever you want. Tire brands are like dentists. The cheaper the price, the cheaper the product. But, again, if you are just going to take it to shows, a
cheaper, smaller tire would be fine. If you are going to put a loader on it, better have wide, good tires. I'd suggest follow what you think looks good.

The loader comment got me thinking. This tractor has a large propane tank mounted on the nose (forward of the wheels). I'd guess that's maybe 100lb full. I know that's not much in the scheme of things, but it probably does shift the center of gravity forward a bit. Do you think maybe that extra weight on the front might have played into the previous decision to go with 5.00-15? I notice that the rated load is significantly higher on the 5.00s than the 4.00s.
