MF 35 Air Filter

Just finishing up an out of frame engine rebuild, head job, clutch job, transmission front seal replace on a '62 (I believe) 35.

Went to clean up and install the air filter and discovered that it is a majorly altered and botched fix up abortion.

What can I replace it with that will fit a paper filter in? This is a work tractor, not a resto, so don't care if it looks a little non-factory.

Thanks,
JP.

152 diesel.

Any filter housing that is decent and holds a fairly standard air filter will do.

Thanks,
JP.

There is an oil bath resivour in the
bottom of the air breather of a MF 35.
Them some steel mesh to filter out any
particles that doesn't stick to the oil.

I suggest keeping it this way and using
some steel kitchen scours like this to
replace the mesh.

If you don't want to be cheap, you can buy the replacement filter elements right her on YT. The elements for the 8N are exactly the same for the MF35.

A good trick to remember when replacing those screens is to place the new screen over a caulking tube. Then place the open end over the tube in the air filter and slide the new screen in. It's way easier than trying to stuff the screen into the air filter without the calking tube. A new caulking tube or a used one will work equally well. The new tubes have enough opening in the end to work.

I rigged up a cone shaped clamp on air filter for now.

The problem with the original oil bath is that the bottom had rotted out of it (apparently) and a previous owner fitted a stainless saucepan (his wife is still looking for it) on to the bottom.

When I cleaned it all up and refitted it to the tractor it leaked around the bottom pretty bad and for some reason sucked almost all of the oil out of the sauce pan. Had a little bit of a runaway going for a minute, good thing I was outside and in 2nd gear.

I will be keeping an eye out for an original replacement. For now the clamp on will at least keep the leaves and spiders out of the intake.

For some reason I now forget, I replaced the whole air filter on my MF202. I think it was the same filter that the 8N takes.

I just checked. You can purchase a whole new air filter or just the bottom cup from right here on YT.

Sorry, I kind of forgot which forum I was in and was thinking you had an 8N. Anyway, my MF202 is the industrial version of your MF35 so it takes the same filter as my 202. As I said, it's available right here on YT.
