Replacing clutch pivot bushings

Hello

I have a 1979/80 Massey 20C. It has a loader. The clutch pivot bushings (and shaft I imagine) are totally shot. I assume the tractor needs split to fix these?

Im in a unique situation where the front axle and basically everything on the engine is already stripped down. The engine and loader frame are supported by blocking Here are my choices as I see it:

1. Finish reassembling the front axle so I can split the tractor by rolling it apart

2. Hook the to engine with my cherry picker, support the trans and separate the engine now.

Anyone been down this road? Advice? It has a ad3.152 perkins, how much does that weigh?

thanks,

Drew

I'd pull the engine with the cherry picker since the front axle/support is already off. A 2 ton cherry picker shouldn't have a problem with the engine.

Thanks for the info.

I have one lift hook on the left front part of the head but I think there should be another hook on the rear right? Or do you guys not even bother with those and use a 4 way chain on the block?

Also, here is the million dollar question...

Since im taking the time to separate the tractor, what all should I replace while im there? I have some documentation from the previous owner that the pressure plate (not clutch disk) was replaced about 10 years ago. I know some guys will just do it all (trans seal, rear main, clutch, TOB, etc). I imagine if the pivot bushings are shot, the clutch cross shafts are also.

thanks

Drew

I have NO hands on experience with the MODEL of your MF Tractor..

However, here are the Transmission Clutch bushings being installed, my 1963 MF 35 3 cylinder diesel..

When I designed the Mandrels,(note pic) one was designed to be used for both the installation of the Clutch Shaft
bushings, as well as the Transmission Input shaft OIL SEAL installation.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I might have some 1.25 or 1.5 stock layin around. Cool tool!

Are those bushings single piece or split? Do you finish ream them to size?

thanks,

Drew

Bushings are SPLIT.........NO I did NOT have to REAM them..

I replaced the shaft, the clutch pedal attaches to.....New Shaft came Knurled.:)

Set screw on the right side of the through out forks had been twisted off! I was able to cut shaft with a very thin
cut off disc.

Just did an out of frame engine job, clutch, front transmission seal on our 35.

We found that the front end is much easier to roll around and replace with the front axle attached.

JP.

P.S.: Ours is a 152 also. I'd guess the assembled bare engine (block, head, crank, pistons, etc., plus the pan, that pan is heavy!) weighs 5, 6, 700lbs.

Much easier to re-assemble the engine out of frame where you can roll it around. Getting the pan and the front seal holder / gaskets / cork gasket / etc. back together is much easier with the engine on a table bottom up.

Hi,

I just need to replace the clutch bushings and some other odds and ends in there at the rear of the engine/bellhousing area. No pan replacement. The front of the engine is easy to access since the front axle has already been removed.

That being said, im thinking about replacing just about everything in the bellhousing area that I can get to if I have to go to the trouble of splitting the engine and trans.

thanks,

Drew
