Hopefully, there is an experienced person who can help me with a newly developed problem on my 1957 Fergson FF30DS.
I havent used it in a while and noticed the lift arms were right down.Started up and there was no action on the quadrant. Checked the oil level which was just about on the stick, so I topped it up and the arms went right up to their full extent and will not come down.
I dont have a workshop manual and so am reluctant to start any dismantleing without any knowledge of the system.
I would be grateful for any advice on this problem or info on where to obtain a workshop manual.

Hi, the chances are that the control valve has stuck due to inactivity.
Cautiosly unscrew one of the drain plugs, the one under the gearbox
on the left hand side will be the easiest. Observe if any water comes
out first. If it is clean oil replace the plug. If it is greyish mayonaise
colour consider draining it all. Drain the level to the bottom bolt on the
side cover and remove the cover. Inside you will see the pump
control lever coming up from below making contact with the operating
fingers coming down from above. Operate the Position Control
quadrant lever. To lower the 3-point the pump lever the fingers should
push the lever rearwards of vertical. I suspect that you will find that
the pump lever is stuck in a position forward of vertical. If this is the
case, using sensible hand pressure try and move the lever rearwards
with the engine off. If the lever becomes free work it back and forth to
clean it up. If there was water present in the casing the precision
control valve may have rust on it which will normally require
replacement.

To be honest, I was thinking the worse. Altough I have never worked on a tractor before, I would like to have a go at this .
If the problem turns out to be precision control valve could you tell me what is involved in removal ?

Hi John, thanks for the pictures, I think I now have an idea of the system. Is it possible to remove the control valve through the inspection cover or is it more involved ?

Jim

Hi David, earlier this year you gave me some advice on FF30DS hydraulics.
Unfortunately The tractor hydraulic pump is very jerky and weak so it seems like it needs to be removed either for service or replacement. Is this possible to do without splitting the tractor ??
