65 water temp.

I've purchased a 65 gas a couple of weeks ago. Gauges didn't work, Just changed alll dash gauges. Started engine, let it idle for about 15 minutes. All other gauges work, but noticed that even after 15 minutes, water temp gauge still showed cold. Shouldn't that time be enough to show normal temp, or do you think my new gauge is defective ? Thanks

When you checked he THERMOSTAT, what did it look like...did you suspend it in a container of water, then place on stove
to verify the opening Temperature of the Thermostat..

Electric water / coolant gauge?? or Mechanical water / coolant gauge??
Bob..

I didn't check the thermostat , sorry, complete newbie here. I can see now that I should of checked it. Mechanical coolant gauge, also.

Does the gauge have a numbered scale or just ranges? Depending on the low-end range of a gauge, an engine can run at an idle for quite a while without appearing to move the gauge needle. Check the thermostat (someone may have removed it), then actually get on it and run it to see what happens.

Usually after about 15 minutes of working the tractor the thermostat should be opening (upper radiator hose getting hot). If the upper hose
is hot and the gauge shows cold, then it may be a gauge issue. A non contact thermometer can be used as well.
