Rope seal leak v engine sump Cork gasket

Split the Massey ferguson 35 3 cylinder
which has been leaking alot of oil and I
honestly can't figure out if its the rope
seal or the engine sump that's leaking.
Transmission plate had alot of engine oil
in it. From the pics. What's your
guesses?
As you can see there appears to be no oil
running from the aluminium plates of the
rope seal yet on the bearing caps where
it says 'No 4' is where the oil seems to
be dripping from onto the plate and out
the weep hole.

What is the Crankshaft End play? Using a DIAL indicator.

Pic of a one-piece Positive crankshaft oil seal from one of your previous posts..

Total running hours on engine ?
Total running hours since REAR Crankshaft OIL SEAL was replaced?
When ENGINE was up to operating temp...180 deg F and at min speed...any evidence of PRESSURE build up in Engine sump?
As in pressure /blowby when the engine OIL FILLER CAP was removed?
Bob..

Hey Bob cheers for the reply. Total engine rebuild and has 300 hours on it since. Rope seal was replaced then. Probably started leaking after 60 hours or less to be honest. No only a thou of end play and no blow back on oil cap or at dipstick.

I really think its the sump Cork that could be leaking I don't know at this stage I'll probably go by elimination as its easier to split a 35, sump removal a bigger job.
Yea the modified seal will be going in on this so will be interesting to see the outcome.

I've another 35 which I rebuilt done the engine rebuild a few years ago and no engine oil leak. 9/10 it's always the rope seal though. Very bad system.

Upon inspection my rope seal was perfect, the crank was as dry as a bone. What's failed was the paper gasket the goes from the aluminium housing to the engine block at the bottom.

Modified rope seal now fitted, sits very tight on the crank in a nice way and the rubber which also replaces the paper gasket that failed on mine now covers a much greater area and goes right on tighter to the bearing cap No4 which I like.
