Fender Radio

I have seen these fender mount radios around, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the history of them. I can;t imagine they functioned to well with the sound of the engine without a cab- LOL

I assume they were an add-on accessory and didn't come with the tractors. It looks like they are from the 70s maybe 80s? I have never actually seen a radio mounted on a fender on an older 100 series tractor

nOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT ONE, BUT ALL WERE THE SAME i THINK. tHEY HAD A POWERFUL AMP AND SPEAKER IN THEM SO YOU COULD HEAR OVER FARM TRACTORS,BAILERS,OOMBINES, ETC, tHEY ALSO HAD SOME BUILT IN STATIC PROTECTIONS OTHWISE ALL OF THOSE UNSHIELDED ENJINES WOULD HAVE RUINED THE SIGNAL. We only had am. Fm signal was less effected by the radio but never was on a tractor with fm.

I had one on my 1520 JD for a while, unless you had it wide open you could not hear above the tractor noise at PTO -RPM and my tractor has the low exhaust,I don't know if you could hear it at all with the high exhaust. It might work well for cultivating but who does that anymore?

Back in the 70's we had a fender mount on our tractors, they were common. Would plow all day listening to the radio and my ears would ring in the evening. I bought a New MF 285 open station tractor in 1980 and had dealer install a AM-FM fender mount radio on it. I still have the tractor, and Radio still works GREAT. I mostly use the radio at low RPM's or when tractor is parked now days. I don't have a hearing aid, but sometimes, I should have. What did u say?

we had em back in the day.. the one i remember the most was on a JD3010 if you was 1/2 a mile away you could hear the radio over the tractor but the guy in the seat couldnt hear anything.
