MF50 manual to power steering conversion

Hello everyone,

I want to convert my MF50 manual steering
to power steering. I would like to stay
away from universal power steering
conversion kit.

The power steering pump for all MF50 line
can be found brand new for a decent price.
The mounting bracket and steering pedestal
for sure will need to be sourced from a
salvage tractor somewhere. Now for the
cylinder and valve it is a different
story.

I found a used cylinder that would need to
be rebuild but the guy is asking way too
much $ for it. Might as well try to find a
brand new cylinder/valve combo that works
for a MF50 agricultural tractor. Searching
the web using the OEM part numbers for the
MF50 did not work at all and so that is
why i am here.

Up until now, I found all MF50 tractor as
well as MF65 share the same cylinder shape
and size. The part number may be different
but it only affects the internal design.
Here are the parts numbers I found for the
different cylinder used on the MF50:
- 183 074 M91 + 183 073 M91
- 184 871 M92 (benton 9000 rev.J)
- 188 740 M92 (benton 9100)

I know the cylinder on the MF65 is the
same but i dont have any part number. Can
someone provide part numbers for the
cylinder being use in the MF65?

Now i am trying to find the cylinder
dimensions for my MF50 and match that
information with commercially available
cylinder such as those 2 massey part
numbers. Which seems to be the only ones
available. A google search of those
numbers will lead you to multiple ebay and
amazon listings.

188 437 4M92

Here are my questions:

Part number for the PS cylinder on the
MF65?

Except for the MF65, any other tractor
shares the same power steering cylinder as
the MF50? Do you have part numbers?

What is the cylinder width and length on
the MF50?

If you own a tractor with a PS mechanism
similar to the one being used on the MF50,
What is the cylinder width and length?

Thanks everyone!

Is your tractor gas or diesel? the pumps are not the same, and diesel pump might be easier to get than the gas engine pump. There were two cylinder suppliers too, a Benton welded cylinder and the late tractors used a four bolt tie rod cylinder.

I have done the swap on a 50 gas and used 65 parts. The gas pumps require a spiral cut gear while the diesels have a straight gear. Been years since it was done and you may find articles on it in the archives here my handle or a ps search. Good luck.
