MF 180 3 pt drifts up and filter change

I previously posted this in the wrong section. MY neighbor has a Massey Ferguson 180 and the 3 pt hitch drifts up as he is brush hogging. He tried to get the filter out the left hand side inspection hole but cant with the lines in the way. The filter is now unscrewed but we are unable to get it out. I think we may have to take the top cover off? Also what would cause the 3pt to drift up?

My guess is he's using the WRONG control lever, for mowing the POSITION lever should be used, NOT the DRAFT lever as that will cause up/down drifting. The MF 180 pump inlet screen needs the lift cover removed for screen service, best get a service manual first. Lift cover damage WILL happen if the pump control lever roller is not removed first through the right side cover.
