Massey pony wont start

Hello all

I have a Massey pony I found in a barn. I replaced the points, condenser, coil, spark plugs, wires, harness and battery. Gave it a cheap little paint job as well. I had spark - but wouldnt start bc the carb was plugged. Cleaned the carb, put it back on and now Im not getting any spark. Its got to be something really simple but I have no idea what any help?

If it helps when its turning over it seems to be sucking air out of the exhaust instead blowing it out. Unsure why - although its probably a different issue. Its a positive ground but I reversed the polarity and it turns the same way anyways.

Im at a loss - cant be that difficult - there must be something small Im missing.

Heres a pic of the setup if it helps. Thanks a lot! Paul

Not always, but in many cases new users have to have 5 or more posts on record before the site lets them post pictures (or links), due to site spam filters. Another option is to go down to the Site Comments Forum and ask YT Support for permission to post prior to that. You can try going down to the Test Forum and making several posts there to get your post count up, trying to attach your pictures to each post. That may work after you make several posts. Then make your post here again. It may not work immediately after you get past the 5 posts, if not, you might try logging out and back in at that point. There is a size limit as well, I think it is a total of 7mb per post (be it one picture or the total of several). Some pictures (often taken with phones), are too large and have to be reduced before they will post.

Reversing the battery cables will not change the rotation of a starter. If it is sucking in the exhaust you may have one or more stuck valves from setting.

Put a test light on the post of the coil closest to the distributor. The light should go on and off as the engine is cranked over with the ignition on. That will tell you if the points are working. That is a starting point and there could be a ways to go here. Do you have anything for a manual for it, even an I&T one?

When I became the owner of several MH Pony's I entered Pony Operating and Service Instructions 650534M2 on the
Internet..

Presently there are several for sale...Originals

$6.00 > $20.00

The reason it is sucking air into the exhaust is probably due to valves that are stuck open. There should be a plate on the side of the engine that you can remove to expose the valve stems and springs?

Remove side cover and verify IF any VALVES are stuck open.?

Thanks! Seems a few are stuck open. Is there a good way to unstick them without doing any damage? I was wondering about a little wd40 and then lightly tap them with a mallet or dowel?

WD40 will not help much if any since it isn't a oil as such but made to displace water. W stands for water and D displacement. ATF poured down the exhaust is probably your best bet. Pour as much down it as you can and let it sit. It will fill the cylinder so you will need to remove the plugs to spin it over but the valve might free up by doing that

Your Tractor probably left the factory with a Continental N.62..62 Cubic s

I have been very successful freeing up engine valves with the big sister ..the Continental 124..used on an old MH pull
type Combine..

I removed all spark plugs, side inspection plate (Valve train Cover)...
Sprayed Kroil penetrating fluid through spark plug hole and on to valve....
With the 126 engine I was able to see the VALVE HEAD ...inserted a small diameter brass drift, tapped valve lightly with a very lite mechanics hammer.....<8 ounces...
