(quoted from post at 14:45:12 09/15/21) trouble starting MF 271. I have 12 volts at battery but only 7.5 volts at starter solonoid . If i remove the purple and the br
own/creame wire from the solonoid terminal I get 12.5 volts.

ANY IDEAS?

"Trouble starting" as in the starter doesn't crank the engine over, or it cranks but doesn't start? The color of a wire means nothing, at least to me, without a wiring diagram giving colors and termination points for reference. You don't say if the key was on or not during the voltage checks. Has it been setting or was it running and this just happened?

12 volts at the battery can indicate it is less than full charged. Hard to understand how you got a higher voltage at the solenoid than you had at the battery. Did you check the battery before or after unhooking those wires?

I would start by cleaning the battery cables. Not just the battery terminals but the other ends and the places the ends contact as well. There is the possibility you have a cable that is bad internally in the terminal at one end or the other. Try hooking a booster cable from battery positive to the battery terminal on the solenoid and see if it starts. If it does, either the terminals are dirty or the cable is bad.

** update**
no sound at all when trying to START
VOLTAGE AT BATTERY 12.8
AT SOLONOID WITH IGNITION OFF !2.8
IGNITION ON 7.13

NEW IGNITION SWITCH
TERM 1 7.1 V
TERM 2 7.25
3 AND 4 0 V

To be clear. I am reading your results as the 7.13 volts is at the solenoid with the key on. Is the battery voltage at 12.8 whether the key on or off; or does the voltage at the battery drop to 7.13 volts as well, when you turn the key on?

Did you clean the battery cables prior to taking these readings? If not, clean them and retest. Have you had the battery load tested? If the Battery voltage drops to 7.13 volts when the key is turned on, that points to a bad battery. If the battery voltage stays at 12.8 (or drops slightly like a tenth or two) volts when the key is turned on and the voltage at the solenoid drops to 7.13, it points to a bad connection or cable. My thoughts, others may vary.
