Massey 44 diesel

What should I be concerned about in a 44 Massey diesel that hasn't been run in about 12
years. The owner says it has been in a shed all this time. It turns over OK but can't get fuel to
the injectors. Is there an issue with the injection pump that shows up after it has been
inactive for a long time etc?

When I asked him what all he has tried, he said Not much. I don't have the time to fiddle with
it.

I don't have any experience with Massey diesels so other than trying all the common
possibilities is there something in particular that I should look for?

If the hydraulic head in the pump sticks, the drive will shear off when the engine is turned over. Renders the pump junk as parts are nla.

Too late now, but when dealing with an engine that has the American Bosch PSB pump, best thing is to pull the pump first and get it checked out. Sometimes they can be saved if just stuck and not broken yet.

At this point pull the pump and get it looked at. You may well be looking for a replacement.

Thanks moresmoke. I didn't know they had the Bosch PSB pump. I know exactly what gear you mean. The Case 400 diesel had those pumps and by personal experience I found out the hard way, by not knowing how to take it apart. A gummed up hydraulic head will certainly do the same thing. A local machine shop will repair the gear assy for $500.00

agree on pulling pump first before turning engine over. too late now as that is your problem. you just toasted the pump. had a few of those pumps stuck now . case 900 and case 400.
