Ordered a new alternator for my MF 231 tractor, the new alternator is completely different from the original, to start with the casing is longer, I believe I can cut the threaded bolts off on the rear of the case to make room for it to mount on to my tractor, it is too long to mount up without cutting the bolts off as it will be up against the power steering reservoir. The wiring is completely different, on my original alternator the red wire mounted on the one stud marked with a 30 and the purple wire plugged in to a spade on the rear. This new alternator has three studs on the rear marked as B, D and M, where do I attach my red and purple wires from the tractor?

30 is your battery wire which on your new alternator you connect it to the B+ stud. Purple wire is the exciter wire which you connect to the D+ on the new alternator.
