MF 135 Diesel

I recently pruchased a 1972 Massey Ferguson 123 Diesel. It starts and runs great, but if you accelerate to around 1500 RPMS it sounds like it is missing and has white smoke. I tried to search for this topic on the site but didn't find anything. This is my first Diesel so not much experience on them. From what I read it sounds like a fuel combustion problem. Any ideas on where to start checking?

Look in the top of the radiator and see if there are bubbles in the coolant. If there are then best case its a blown head gasket. Do a compression check and see if two adjacent cylinders are down in compression.
