MF 35X dual clutch problem

After some mowing yesterday I noticed the clutch pedal had no resistance until almost fully pushed down at which time I could hear a humming sound. I was able to drive it and park it in the garage. Removed the inspection plate underneath and saw the release bearing push forward and rubbing against the Finger bolts causing the humming. But still no resistance for the clutch pedal. What could be the issue? I noticed in the spring prior to bush cutting that once I turned off the engine after putting the tractor in neutral that I could hear a slight grinding sound as something was turning inside the clutch. I pushed on the clutch pedal slightly and it stopped. What would still be turning in there after the engine is turned off and tractor in neutral?

On my MF 35 X there was the same sound and scenario as yours...
The Release Bearing Carrier SPRINGS had FAILED...
This allowed the Clutch Release Bearing to come in contact continually with the Clutch release fingers..

As time and usage passed...the CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING...the CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING CARRIER had to be replaced ..

I was not able to locate a used MF 35 CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING CARRIER in CANADA,...I installed a MF 65 CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING as the MF 65 CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING CARRIER works perfectly...

There are other reasons that the CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING CARRIER is not fully returning back to the non engagement position..

Thanks very much for all the input. great coverage with pics and part numbers.

I looked inside from underneath. the springs on the carrier are intact. While depressing the clutch pedal I see the release bearing slide forward but it has to travel a few inches before it contracts the finger bolt heads. If I start the tractor and look inside I see the release bearing slide forward as before and the release bearing bunds up against the finger bolt heads and a squeal humming sound and o see the bolt heads digging into the flat contact surface of the release bearing.

I don't see the bearing contacting the fingers at all for the drive clutch. it is only 9nce the pedal is all the way depressed for the PTO clutch do I see contact.

It's been some years since I've been under one, but some things come to mind here. First, I think the manual calls for less than an inch of free play in the pedal
before contacting the bolt heads on the fingers.
It sounds to me as if the clamp bolt on the pedal (#26) has loosened a bit and allowed the pedal to turn on the shaft.
If there's a squeal or other noise when the bearing hits the lever bolts (and the bolt heads dig in a bit) the bearing probably needs renewing, and that's a split
job.

X 2 as per Jack in NB comments...

When I totally striped the 6 speed in my 1963 MF 35 X I had to replace the shaft the clutch pedal attaches to....

Fortunately...the shaft was Knurled...that ensures the clutch pedal does not rotate separately from the clutch actuating shaft..........:)
