Hi all I hope somebody here can help me out. I have a 1962 202 Work Bull that is recently the shifter is getting stuck in gear. Sometimes I can catch it and shift as long as it does not have a load on the transmission .This does not happen all the time sometimes it shifts as smooth as butter.
Another symptom that has developed is while on a hill when you push the clutch in the tractor will not free roll. Again this does not happen all the time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I have a MF202 myself. A couple times i've had the shifter get stuck and it would not move at all. I forget what gear the tractor was stuck in now. When this happens, the trick is to remove the big trans filler plug. Then take a large screw driver or a small pry bar and stick it in there. I usually take a piece of leather and put it between the pry bar and the threads, you don't want to damage them. When you look down that hole, you will see a large gear. Just take the pry bar and gently move that gear forward. You will know when it's fixed when you can take the shifter and move it side to side again as you can when it's in neutral.

I found out that the trick with the 202 trans is not to try to shift it too fast and kind of keep it pushed down a little when you shift it. In other words don't let you hand do any upward movement.

Being gentle on the trans, I haven't had any problem for maybe two years now. When it doesn't want to shift into a gear, I release the clutch and push it again. In other words double clutch it. This always works for me.

Hi John,
I have a 1956 202. Because you said . Another symptom that has developed. It sounds clutch related, maybe adjustment? When I have several hours of continuous use, there are times when the gears feel not stuck, put rather like the gears engaged have torque coming from the engine or drivetrain. I have thought was the clutch is not disengaging.

Thanks for all the replies I appreciate the insight.
I have the manual on how to adjust the clutch and it is adjusted as described.
I also have seen stated to adjust the clutch using a .090 feeler gauge. I believe I read some where that this pertains to installing a new clutch and is not needed again.

Only adjustment I am aware of is for the pedal. Not knowledgeable enough to know various clutch symptom meaning.
I do know with mine, I need to be at idle, fully depress and then begin the shift. Kind of like a cars automatic transmission going from drive to reverse.

I had every oddball gear shifting problem you can think of on a six speed MF 35.

Finally enough was enough....

Changed Clutch plates, adjusted as per manual......

Shifts like brand new........:)
To engage the PTO was bloody impossible. Throughout housing was smashing into fingers on clutch pack..
Best thing I could have done was do a complete removal and replace as per required, with proper manual settings.
