What do you think caused this damage? there was nothing in the combustion chamber, Valves are perfect and no head damage. Engine was taken apart for rod bearing on this same cylinder 1.

(quoted from post at 19:38:40 08/03/21) Maybe Ether or just a defective made piston.

I have not seen ether damage before but the odd thing is that it is farthest from the air intake and no other pistons have issues.

(quoted from post at 13:07:06 08/03/21) Looks like something went through in the past..

I was kind of thinking the same like maybe a broken valve and the took the head off and didn't want to split the tractor. If that is the case it was a long time ago as this head has been there for years by the looks of things.

Looks like it dropped a valve sometime in it's life. Not hurting anything, unless it sprung the rod.
For those that said that it dropped a valve in a past life I am 100% convinced. After cleaning the head I see that the casting is unpainted from original paint or the many years old repaint. With the layers of glop on it I would still say it has been on there and running for years.
