F40 without charging system or alt conversion kit?

I have the Ferguson F40 and the generator is toast. I can run the tractor for a little while but eventually the generator starts burning and smoking and squealing. Aside from the hearing damage, I get just a little nervous that it's going to turn into a bomb and explode on me. The best I can tell, I would need a 63 amp one wire alternator plus all of the hardware to mount it, a resistor What else? Is there an aftermarket tachometer that could connect to the coil and fit into the dash panel ?

Alternatively, if I didn't want to mess with a charging system could I just get a smaller belt that would run the pump and fan? Basically, just scrap the whole electrical charging system?

It's a good economical choice to change from generator to alternator. Generator will be more costly to rebuilt than alternator conversion, and today's generator regulators are a problem.

63 amps is common alternator output, but you do not necessarily need that much. A 3 wire version would not be difficult to wire.

Check Tractor Parts under Market Place, top left column of this page. They have alternators with Tach output available.

I don't have a problem converting but there's a part here and part there and I just end up getting lost in all the parts and pieces. Just want to mow. That's why I was thinking just putting a smaller belt in might work, But after typing this I realize there would be no way to tension the belt so that's really not an option. Guess I'll be converting.
