Does anyone have a simple wiring diagram to wire up a single wire alternator.
I am replacing the generator and would like to keep the original ammeter working.
Thanks for any help,

Ted

That is simple to do.
#1 switch the wires from side to side since the gen system would be + ground. Then hook the wire from the alternator to the right side post of the amp gauge like your sitting on the tractor.

Not having specifics of what you are working on, a 10 gauge wire from the output stud on the alternator to the ammeter will do it. It hooks to the same terminal of the ammeter as the switch and any other loads are on. If your old system is positive ground you need to swap the wires on the ammeter terminals or it will read backwards, as well as change the battery cable connection points to be negative ground, unless you bought a special positive ground alternator.
