This is the only number I can find on this old 3 cylinder. Any way to tell what I have? Year?

1957826C

Thanks
Craig

Is it just the engine or is it in a tractor? If in a tractor, what tractor and do you have the tractor serial number? Is this a stamped number and where is it located on the engine? Pictures?

Its actually a core engine Im looking to buy, its out of a MF 35 he thinks, pretty sure its a fit for my 1962 MF 50?

The number is off the engine block just below the head.

Your picture shows what appear to be precombustion chambers both sides of the copper exhaust gasket. These are 3 triangular plates (1 per cylinder), about 3/8
thick, each secured to the head with 3 studs.

The second identifying feature would be vertically mounted injectors (not sloped at about a 20 degree angle). Those features along with the serial number
suggests you're looking at an A3-152 which was fitted to a whack of 35's. The latest 35'5 had the AD3-152 direct injection setup with sloped injectors.

A most reliable engine, and one of the cheapest to overhaul - there were so many around (and still are!) that parts are readily available from aftermarket
suppliers at most reasonable prices. On my first overhaul in 1977 or '78 I went to the local Massey dealer and paid $150 per hole for sleeve, piston, piston
pin, rings. For my next one I had found an aftermarket supplier, and did the job with Vapormatic parts for $50 per hole. (The dealer tried to get the supplier
to stop selling direct to me . . . . . .)

Another thing to check - crankshaft end play. Overhaul spec is .002 to .012 I think; if it's excessive it may indicate wear on the thrust surfaces of block or
crank, and that can cost bucks to fix.

If you do get it, check the precups for leakage (black carbon streaks from blowby) around the mounting plates, and if they're clean don't touch them for God's
sake. I've overhauled a dozen of those engines, and resealing the precups was the most difficult of any operation on the engines. I finally wound up chucking
them in a lathe and shaving them down a bit before I could set a satisfactory seal.

My family purchased a 1963 MF 35 X new ...3 cylinder Perkins Diesel....
Engine S # 1968212c

The Tractor / Engine has been a great runner for the passed 6000 + hours.
Engine is a Perkins A3.152
