Question on Exhaust Manifold Hole Layout 35/135

Good evening Everyone.

Last fall I purchased a new exhaust pipe/combo from my local parts store for my MF20 with the 3 cylinder perkins. I assume that's the same setup as a 135. Anyway, the parts guy ordered it, and when I went to get the old pipe off had no luck. So my project got delayed until this spring. Using a torch, heated things up and got the bolts out and the nut off of the stud.

The problem is that when I went to bolt up the new pipe, the holes in the flange were rotated from those on the manifold. Not fun.

Looking at the new pipe, it's a stanley muffler MF-7, which apparently is for a MF-35. I'm just wondering, is the flange orientation on the 35 different from the 135? I'm trying to figure out if what I have is defective, or if I need to order a different part.

Any help is much appreciated.

This likely depends on the engine in your tractor. A lot of the 35's came with the continental 4-cyl gas engine, the 135's could have the Continental or a Perkins gas, or of course the Perkins diesel. I only have the Continental engined units, so I can;t say for sure, but if you have a Perkins, the holes may well be in a different orientation.

To clarify, since you have the Perkins, it's likely the muffler you have is for a Continental-engined 35, I'd check the parts book to see if there is a difference, likely there is.

Thanks for the reply.

From what I can see looking at the listing from Stanley Muffler, they dont make a different part for the continental vs perkins engines. I have the Perkins 3 Cylinder gas, and there is just one part listed that I see.

I suppose I need to just go order another part and see if it is different, or try to see if I can get an exchange on the one I have.

I was hoping to hear that if someone had a 35 and 135 near each other they could say if the orientation of the holes was rotated.

Thanks!

The MF35 with the Perkins used a different exhaust manifold than the 135, and 20 industrial did so I would think the orintation of the bolt pattern is different as to which way the pipe points. If I read the Stanley muffler catalog right you should need a Stanley MF-6. You maybe able to cut the pipe, rotate the flange till it lines up, and weld it back up.

Thanks ptfarmer.

I was assuming I would need the "MF-36" based on what is in the stanley catalog. I was given the "M-7" by my local Temco dealer, and wasnt sure if I could make it work. I can probably cut the pipe and adjust it, then just use some clamps and an expanded piece of pipe to make it work, but I would rather not cut up a brand new part if I can help it.
