Massey Ferguson 135 Unknown Plug And Fluctuated Oil Pressure

Good day all. I just purchased a 1974 / 1975 MF 135 with perkins 3cy gas engine. Im not sure what model or year it is because the tag on the dash was destroyed. Issue im having is the oil pressure on start up goes all the way high in the red and then after about 30/40 mins I will run it and if I put the throttle back to idle speed it will jump down to the green area. Is this normal? the seller used 15w 40 rotella in it. And also see attached pictures. There is a plug close to the oil pressure line that looks like it was cut off or something I have no idea what that plug is for. Any help on this would be appreciated from the high and wise lol

how do I upload images? I used the upload images / videos but its saying im using words that cant be used in the post?

Not always, but in most cases new users have to have 5 or more posts on record before the site lets them post pictures, due to site spam filters. Another option is to go down to the Site Comments Forum and ask YT Support for permission to post prior to that. You can try going down to the Test Forum and making several posts there to get your post count up, trying to attach your pictures to each post. That may work after you make several posts. Then make your post here again. It may not work immediately after you get past the 5 posts, if not, you might try logging out and back in at that point. There is a size limit as well, I think it is a total of 7.5mb per post (be it one picture or the total of several). Some pictures (often taken with phones), are too large and have to be reduced before they will post.

Have you checked the oil pressure with a gauge known to be accurate? That would be my first step.

Havent tried a different guage yet. Do you have any suggestions on a kit for testing and what psi range for normal pressure? The seller said it was a new gauge and that the high pressure is normal but i want to be sure before damage was caused. It doesnt smoke or anything and runs great.

Thanks brother. You have any info on the oil pressure issue?

To me your first issue is you are looking at a gauge with ranges on it, not pressures. You don't know what the pressures are across the range of that gauge are, it might be somewhere in the 30 to 60 pound range at the high end. The manual (in the link I gave you) says 40-55 lbs. is the normal lube pressure, so a low range gauge is going to read high on a system with proper pressure.

The Operator's Manual I gave you the link to only talks about the red as low pressure and the gauge should always be in the white range, when describing the oil pressure gauge. Look at pictures of oil pressure gauges on line that come up if you do a search for a Massey Ferguson 135 oil pressure gauge. You will see may different faces and ranges of color scales being sold in the aftermarket. The same gauges are often sold for multiple tractor lines which may have different lube system pressures, so the OEM gauge scales may not match the aftermarket ones. That is why I prefer gauges with numbers, not ranges.

As I posted before, check it with a known gauge, ideally that would be a calibrated test gauge. In this case that would be overkill. I would say a new gauge of reasonable quality, from NAPA or other parts store, with pressure numbers on it (max 80 psi) will work. The more of the dial face used for the numbers (like 270 degree sweep vs a 90 degree sweep) the finer the graduations and closer the readings will be. Then you can see what the pressure actually is.

Or as long as the needle stays in the ranges on your gauge now, as you describe it, don't worry about it. JMHO
