I lost the dipstick on my MF 1085 when mowing in heavy brush, apparently a branch caught it and yanked it out. The dealer wants around $200 for a total replacement of the dipstick and the housing it goes into. I bought a dipstick online that I thought was an original but not sure. My question is are there any 1085 owners out there who would measure the distance from their dipstick cap to the full mark? The 1085 has a 318 ci 4 cylinder diesel. I think the 1080 and 285 have the same engine.

I looked at 1085 and 285 tractor dip sticks they are the same; # stamped on stick is 31787424.Measurements= from dust cover top to max is 7 1/2 in. From dust cover bottom to max is 7 1/8 in. min mark is 1 in. lower. If replacement stick is off this measurement, you could make new marks with a grinder or hack saw.

I really appreciate your trouble. I checked mine and it's 1/2 inch shorter, so I'll make new marks to compensate.

Maybe to double check you could check max line with measured fill at next oil change. After your post, I remembered same experience I am having with a Cat 3160 engine with a aftermarket dip stick that I have. I posted for someone to measure theirs but I have not got any replyies. Books I have don't agree as to how many qts of oil it holds.

Product Review - by Staff. When we finally checked out the 3000 PSI North Star, the whole story chaned. This unit was equipped with an 11 HP Honda engine with fuel shutoff, adjustable flow and optional syphon degreaser dispenser. It didn't have a pressure release or electric start to facilitate easy starting but according to the instructions, simply pulling on the trigger while cranking was sufficient. This method of starting proved more than adequate and kept the cost down on the unit. It had all the important
