Forgive me if my terminology is a bit off as I am relatively new to tractors. I have a 1956 MF 50 that a have used hard and gave me no problems until yesterday. Long story short I am in need of a rear axle housing and top cover. Basically everything under the seat. The cast iron housing that bolts to the back of the transmission is cracked beyond repair. What models can I use parts from? What years should I look for? Is there anything I need to be aware of when looking for a parts tractor to repair mine? Thank you for your help.

If it's a 56 model then it's not a MF. A MH50 or Ferguson 40. May have wrong decals which has happens often. Look at serial tag. The early MF50 (58-59-60) will work but the later may be some difference. Be sure and check before buying.

Pretty sure TO35, MF35, F40, and MF50 all used the same rear end.

I believe 35's and 50's use the same rear end. Some 35's (those late in production run) had differential lock. Not sure if yours had diff lock. There are casting numbers on the rear end, just look to match the casting number. The axle housings could be moved over to your "new" rear end housing. Hydraulic pumps varied in 35's, so you will want to check to see if those match up.

Pump and relief valve were replaced less than 6 months ago and gave no problems. The housing was cracked and welded before I ever purchased the tractor and it seems to have just given up. Im not nearly as concerned with cause of failure as I am finding replacement parts.

Is the diff case and lift cover damaged do to a bad hydraulic pump relief valve?

Talk of the Town: Trailerin a Tractor, Chains or Straps? - by Staff. Another great discussion from the Tractor Talk Discussion Forum. The discussion started out with the following post: " I bought a trailer and plan to take my CASE VAS to some shows. I don't yet have anything to secure it to the trailer. So which is better to buy and use; the ratchet-type straps or binders and binder chains?
