MF 35 hydrate pump question

Hi All. The pump in our MF 35 has no filter assembly such as shown in my IT shop manual. Can anyone tell me where the oil is sucked into the pump? Is it through control valve plate or does it seep in through block pistons?? With the amount of crud and tiny bits of metal lying in bottom of center housing I wouldnt be suprised if suction hole is plugged and internals of pump are shot. Any replies much appreciated.

On the underside at the rear of the pump there should be a slot
machined in the body. As far as I am aware this is where the oil is
drawn in.

Was your MF 35 assembled in the USA or Coventry England?
Tractors from Coventry have different TIN / Grill than the units from the USA..
I'm just wondering.......
Is your MF 35 a 3 cylinder or a 4 cylinder Engine ?....Gasoline or Diesel...?

Hey! Thank you for all the info and photos. This is a 4 cylinder gasoline tractor. I really appreciate the info on the photos for removal of lid. I have yet to remove lid or pump. I was hoping to see a photo of underside of pump where slot or inlet port is. Ill take photos of tin and hopefully i.d. where tractor was assembled.

There is this label on dash: Any idea of year? I assume first version of pump? I cant belive no screen even on inlet slothole of pump! I have yet to detect hole for fluid to enter. I need to buy one of those cameras that can go into small openings.

Also I learned 80 sae gl1 oil for common sump yet will be putting in a universal tractor fluid that meets the MF M-1110 oil code. Its made by Klondike. Owner\landlord will not be splurging on mineral oil. All the research I have done ends up being from the USA and no one here in BC, Canada can supply brands Ive found in the USA.

Hi, I believe that only a small number of 3-cylinder 35s came out of Banner Lane without a pump strainer when production started in 1959. Many that did have now had the pumps changed to the filter type.

My MF shop manual tells me how to test hydraulic pump pressure. 2300-2800 psi. The 3 point hitch arms work well yet the loader still comes up really really slow when directional valve is positioned to loader function vs 3 point hitch lift arms. My question is the relief valve for loader spool valve appears adjustable. See acorn nut in photo. Do I adjust that with psi gauge in test port of tractor as depicted in shop manual or do I scew gauge into spool valve somewhere? When loader comes up and relief valve relieves pressure what should pressure be at? So where due I put psi gauge and what is proper pressure? The loader arms seem to not be binding. Ill check pump pressure first tonmake sure pump in center housing is up to spec. Just not sure how to test loader spool valve.

So hydraulic pump pressure under seat with oil filled gauge with 3 point hitch arns up is just under 500 psi. Arms come up within 2-3 seconds with me standing on them. Loader comes up extremely slowly and stops with bucket 2 feet off the ground. When I switch hydraulics from arms to loader the pressure gauge reads no pressure. Gauge only reads in arm raising position (approximately 500 psi)

I am thinking of unscrewing relief valve out of pump and checking it for debris. I have seen relief valves in other machines with metal sliver holding relief valve open. I think replacing pump is the best solution. With over a gallon of water accumulated in oil, and oil never having been changed (for many years I expect) I am sure pump is not in the greatest condition. Based on tractor serial number and pump having no screen I expect its an early version. Anyone suggest a Canadian or US supplier? Or supplier in the UK?

I took the pump out today. Thanks again. Your photos and bolts to remove, where to lift was a big help. I wonder if the lengthwise scoring on these piston shaped parts (with 3 grooves) cause low pump pressure? Nothing appeared broken in pump. Were trying to figure out why the pump would not be developing pressure greater than 500 psi? Which parts of tge pump need to have tight tolerances? Do you know of a supplier in Canada? Thank you
