135 AG3-152 back fires

I have purchased a 1967 135 Perkins gasser that when running backfires out the exhaust side. I will get it tomorrow and maybe work on it this weekend. I know nothing at all about the history of this tractor. The current owner has had it in the same condition as he bought it, but due to health reasons he had to sell it. When he bought it, he was told it set in a barn for 6 months after the original owner passed away, then the owners Grandson messed with it and the family all agreed he did not know anything about tractors, so I'm saying we don't know nor do we have anyway of finding out what he did to it, so we start from the beginning. Any thing any of you have experienced and will share with me will be greatly appreciated.

The family all said it was running perfectly when parked in the barn. The man I bought it from hasn't worked on it because of his health. So sad.

Thanks in Advance;

it may be, I will check the valve settings anyway, before I run it very much, after the timing and plugs and plug wire orientation, the valve settings will be next. It was the first thing I thought of when I first heard it running. Thanks.

Update, I finally got the 135 home right after dark tonight. My Grandson and I will start in the morning, Check distributor timing, check points, check valve settings. Just have a good Boowah-Grandson day!!
