MF 231 PTO SAFETY SWITCH

I have a 231 that has a PTO safety switch mounted on a bracket behind the PTO lever. When the PTO lever is pulled to the rear to engage the PTO, it depresses the plunger on the safety switch, which interrupts the start circuit, so it can't be started while the PTO is engaged. The switch is a 2 wire, normally closed switch, and it is threaded into the bracket. It is not mounted into the transmission housing. Does anyone know the part number of this switch???

Looks like 3761983M91. You can use the on line parts books on the AGCO site. Here is the link you can click to get to it: https://apb.agcocorp.com/

Think I found it, on the fender lighting page. Part #3596851M2. Go figure.

Sorry I have to disagree, it appears to me that you found a light switch on the fender lighting page. I believe the switch you asked about, to prevent starting with the PTO engaged, is item key # 14 on page 030-0035 (PTO Shaft) in parts book #651602. A second switch, with the same part number, is used for the transmission neutral safety switch according to the parts book.

Normally, Sir, I would have to agree with you, and when Googling the part # I found on the lighting page, I see it's used as a brake light switch in some applications. However, the switch you referenced has no similarity with the original that I pulled off, nor does mine mount in the position shown in the drawing you reference. I've been through a couple of dealerships that gave me the same part # that you reference, but there is a serial number break (as noted with part #14 on 030-0035). The PTO handle that I have is part #21 on the same page (note the serial number break in the description, and the difference in the side plate).

I have been working parts counters for about 8 years now, and it never ceases to amaze me how engineers and the people who put parts books together rationalize where they hide parts.

I will take some pictures of what I have this evening and post them, and will gladly eat crow if I am incorrect. :D I just hope that I can be helpful to others that may be running into the same issue.
