MF 20 lift pump and adjustment

I have been working on my MF20, I removed the old lift pump that was badly pitted from water/rust. I am getting ready to start putting everything back together, and I have been researching the topic, seems if things are not adjusted right the top cover can get broken? I have a service manual, having trouble understanding the relationship of the levers for draft and position. And I am seeing you need a special tool to set up correctly?(wedge tool) I don't want to break anything, looking for more help so I don't screw it up.

Hi Pete, yes, it is possible to severely damage the cover if the adjustments are majorly out. When set correctly the position control lever will be fully raised, the pump control valve will be in neutral and the 3-point will be fully raised but NOT tight. Change one of these and that’s when the problems can start. I have dimensioned drawings of the special tools that I can send to you.

Think you could send me that also

Thank you

Yes I would like that, please email me.

Also I found an old post that may have one of the tools the mfn 163 wedge tool , look up "Wedge tool MFN-163" using the search. I worked on making one out of aluminum on my mill , just have to figure out how to make that 1/8 wire tail.

Hi, the wire can really be any suitable material as long as it follows the same path. Remember the outside dimension of the wedge must fit inside the pump
control lever. Drawing below. MF270B is the number that we use on this side of the pond.

I have the hydraulic pump and pto shaft back in, working on all the tools to check the lift cover over before I put it back on, because it looks like some one was in the tractor before I bought it and the lift arms have never worked. I have a question about special tool MFN 970 or MF 272 ram arm tool, I see there are 2 sizes on the drawings for the tool one that is 1" and one that is 7/8" tall, which one goes with what thickness cover?
Thanks in advance!
