1080 multi-power

I have a 1080 with multi power that no longer works. It has not worked in many years and I do not want to repair it. It is in high range so it does not free wheel on the hills. My question is if I plug the hydraulic line going to the MP at the pump will it damage anything and will it stay in high range? Thanks for the help.

Stuck in high range means it's a linkage problem to me. Removing/capping the line will place the MP back in low/freewheel range. I'll bet the MP spool valve is stuck in High. It's possible the shift lever pivot bolt is broken, keeping the spool valve from shifting in/out as needed. Had that happen to a 65 years ago when it stopped MP shifting all at once. Had to split it to replace the bolt.
