CAV pump Fuel line

Bought a new CAV pump for 255 Massey with A236 Perkins. The old pump has 1/4 inch OD in and return lines from the fuel filter.
The new pump has 5/16 compression type in and out lines. They provided a 5/16 inch compression ferrule. The old pump uses 1/4 inch lines with a rubber olive and the end of the line is not flared but has a bulb on the end.
Thought about taking the in and out fittings off the old pump and installing them on the new pump but the fittings on the new pump are marked with white paint. I guess if it were removed would void the warranty.
The ugly option would be using 5/16 to 1/4 compression unions or make new 5/16 line all the way to the filter but at the filter goes back to 1/4 inch and would need some kind of adapter I would guess.

Other ideas???

I put flex joints (neoprene tubing with clamps) roughly in the middle of all the low pressure fuel lines on my 35's, 65, 165 for easier installation.
If I were faced with your problem, I'd use a short (6"? 10"?) piece of the 5/16 lines to and from the pump, and solder in a short (1" or so) copper stub into the end away from the pump on each line. It would probably have to be ground down a bit to slide into the 5/16 line. This would allow a short piece of neoprene to connect to the lines to and from the filter.

Swap the fittings in the pump.

I wouldn't worry about the paint marks there, probably just a "witness mark" that someone tightened the fittings and noted they were oriented correctly.

A COMPLETELY different deal than a heavy "wax seal" on a fuel adjustment or critical assembly.

WHY would you mess up the OEM fuel lines because of a simple marker dab?

Too late.. Done cut them. I did not have new grommets for the old fittings anyway and didn't want to wait a week to get new ones.. It was very hard to pull the lines out of the old fittings. The neoprene sleeves work jut fine.

Anyway got everything hooked up and no leaks. Yippee That was the problem with the old pump. It ran great just leaked like a sieve.

Now the new pump is way too rich. Blowing white smoke and running rough. I can pull the cut off back and it smooths out and has a little dark smoke but cannot advance the throttle when it is partially open. With the cutoff is in full open position I ran it up to 1500 rpm and lots of rolling white smoke and run rough with a backfire. Did not try to run it up any further.
I suppose the pump is set up for a higher fuel flow than the engine needs. The timing cover on the pump has sealing wire and a lead seal with a stamp on it. Same on the top cover where the throttle springs are located.

Oh well guess I will cut them off and have a look see .

The pump is made in Romania by Mefin. Looks identical to the CAV Pump.

Has anyone else ran into this?
