I'm looking at a 180 that according to the owner will lift an implement but will let it leak down while
it's operating. Before I buy it I'd like to have an idea of what it would take to repair it.

Hi, I would agree with Dieseltech about the major internal leak. However, I think you should verify exactly what is happening and when. If the internal leak is happening from the cylinder or stack pipe the hydraulic system will try to replace the oil that it is losing. This will cause the 3-point to fall and rise. If the linkage falls when the engine is running, it could be due to excessive wear in the top link assembly causing the control valve of the pump to be slightly into the discharge position. With the engine stopped it is normal for the linkage to fall over a period of 30 minutes or more. If it goes down in less than 10 minutes, there is a problem.

Are you confident the current owner knows how to operate the valves correctly? The owner may be lifting the implement, then diverting the oil flow to something other than the three point hitch.
