MF35 3 Cyl Perkins

Hi All

New to the forum but have been checking this site for awhile for misc things. I recently came into possession of a 1962 MF35 with the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel motor (SN#: 229634) This tractor was included in a farm that my parents purchased back in the mid-80's. I am trying to get the tractor usable and presentable but by no means a full restoration. I could definitely use some help with this project so my plan is to keep this forum ongoing and would appreciate any and all help you can provide.

The tractor has sat for many years and i was able to get it running about 3-4 weeks ago (new ignition switch & new battery). I knew the tractor was overheating so i purchased and installed a new radiator, radiator hoses from Ebay and coolant from Oreilly's. Although the radiator doesn't fit correctly (hood won't close all the way) the tractor did not overheat after running for 20 minutes or so - it would previously. I am working to get the correct radiator for it.

The next few issues i plan to tackle are:
1 - Generator
2 - Fuel Cap (fuel spills every where)
3 - Fan Belt
4 - Get all gauges working
5 - Get lights working

To start, could someone help me get the part numbers i need for the generator, fuel cap, and fan belt?

Also, my tractor has the square-looking oil bath cleaner and the hose going from the dash to the top of the cleaner has a big hole in it. I have found that these are next to impossible to find and didn't know if someone had a part number for a clamp on filter i could put in its place? I read where one gentleman put a K&N RD-0700 filter there and said it worked fine - i just have a hard time spending 40-70 dollars on that lol

If agco parts website was working it would have them:-(
If it were mine I would replace the geny with an alternator or take your old one to a starter/generator rebuild shop and have it rebuilt, may need a new voltage regulator too.
The fuel cap and belt can be found at NAPA or maybe Tractor supply, some other auto/truck parts places.
A "universal" type radiator hose of the correct diameter and length would replace the air hose or get a dual element filter holder off of a 135 or 245 and replace the oil bath one, a MF dealer may be able to steer you in the right direction. Personally I wouldn't put a K&N on a lawnmower.
As far as gauges I have found some on ebay but they are made overseas, some auto type gauges would work also.
Lights need a good switch(ebay or?) and good wires.
I would suggest an Owner's Manual for helpful info.
It sounds like you have the big part, running, handled, Good Luck with the rest!

Info as per Parts Book

I have a 1960 35 that came with the wrong cap. I ordered one from this site that was supposed to fit. It wasn't even close! I also have a 1979 Ford Granada. The fuel cap on that is a different style but it fits, so I bought another one for the tractor.

Thank you all for the quick responses!! I definitely appreciate it. Once i get off work today, i will get some parts ordered.

Also, check out this forum every once in awhile, i will try to update it as frequently as i can as this project moves along.

Hi All

I took the old generator off the tractor and ran it up to a repair shop. The gentleman there said it was in pretty rough shape and suggested i convert it to a 1-wire alternator. He said he had a 60-amp GM 1-wire alternator he could sell me for around $100 (Said i would be looking at $150-175 to get the generator repaired).

I wouldn't mind converting it over from generator to alternator, however is there a bracket adapter available that i could purchase to allow me to mount the alternator to the tractor? That is my only concern. I do not know how to weld so trying to fabricate something could be more difficult then it really should be haha

I believe when i hook up the alternator i would just have to run the one wire from the alternator to the positive side of the ammeter and then the negative side of the ammeter to the starter solenoid. Please correct me if i am wrong here.

Thanks!!
