4225 MASSEY FERGUSON TRACTOR

Need advice, looking at a 4225 with 4000 hrs. loader bucket, spear, but i now nothing about this tractor. New tires, paint good .What i need to know is the pro's and con's about this one.Shuttle shift, and in most cases depending on how they were cared for 4000 hrs is about the time they come unglued. I've always had junk to farm with this one took my eye for now.

2wd or 4wd? Price seems high for a 2wd.

UK built MF, should be decent. I had 4200 series on my "consider list"

UK built MF, should be decent. I had 4200 series on my "consider list"
2 wd. and i think it's high. how about the 4000 hrs.I know it depends on how the hours was put on it.

I wouldn't be too scared of 4000 hours if the tractor looks in great shape. 2wd be easy hours compared to a 4wd.

Hi, speaking from this side of the pond the equivalent of £11,900
pounds is plenty high enough. The loader will add value to it. I
presume that it is 2WD. In my dealings with the 42 series they are
generally sound and reliable. Engines are bombproof and only had
two transmission problems over the years. One was the range
selector spring broke which was a gearbox out and strip of the range
box. The second was the shuttle clutch plates overheating and
warping. With the tractor split between the engine and g/box the
repair was done at the front of the box. Rust wise they can rust
around the front grille surround. Replacing the hand throttle cable
can be fun too!!!!!!!
All in all recommended.

DAVID P WE have a fast line here in southern KY. maybe in other places just found the tractor was sold two months ago. p.od for sure.

My dad bought a 4243 about 15 years ago. Has probably
3,500 hours on it now. Been a good tractor, only repairs I
remember doing on it other than maintenance is replacing
both rubber brake lines and put a new seal in the front of the
a/c compressor. Great engine and good on fuel for its size.
