Diesel MF35 questions

Hi all. My neighbour has a Massey Ferguson 35 diesel and the hydraulics for the loader are responding very slowly lately. He did some research and told me theres a oil pick up that could be plugged. He said that all the oil in the differential and transmission is also for the hydraulics. He gave me an I T shop service manual that covers all MF Tractors. It is not really a comprehensive service manual for his machine specifically so I had a few questions.

Do the hydraulics use the same oil as the transmission and differential? There is a drain plug for the differential and another drain plug for the transmission. There appears to be fill plugs for both.

If there is a hydraulic suction pick up where might it be and how do you access it?

I would expect theres a hydraulic filter possibly its plugged up. Where might it be?

I took a few photos and I can load them later when Im in Wi-Fi coverage.

Thank you in advance for any answers

The transmission and differential are all one compartment and also serves as the hydraulic reservoir. There are 2 drain plugs on the left side. The large plug to the left of the shifter is the fill plug for both.

The hydraulic pump filter is a screen type attached at the pump inside the tractor. You have to drain down the fluid level below the round PTO shift cover and remove it. Look inside and you can see the filter, a round looking thing beside the pump and with a securing wire tie if it has not been previously molested.

If it's using the hydraulic pump that used for the 3 point the loader is going to be slow anyways due to the fact it's only about a 4.5 gpm pump.

Every HYD pump may have identical symptoms of failure however, may have different problems ....

I checked the PSI on my MF 35 OLD HYD pump.....< 998 psi........plus lift arms were jerky on the lift..

After a PSI test, as per picture and dismantling pump......pump was replaced.....

Hew pump out put PSI 2458 PSI

A kit is available to rebuild the HYD pump...

So far only info I can find on transmission\diff\3 point hitch oil for this is GL1 80 weight. Local parts stores only have GL5 80/90. What do people here use in this day? Brand and part # would be awesome. Thank you. Ill keep looking in meantime.

I'm sue those who operate these Tractors in cold climates eg,-40 deg C/F shall have some good advice.
Our Tractor has ben operating since 1963 in the Dawson Creek British Columbia Canada area.
