180 Massey Lift Adjustment

First of all, thanks to all that have posted their problems and solutions. They have been helpful over the last few years.

But I find myself in a pinch and I have not been able to find a solution through searching. I recently bought a basket case of a 180 for nostalgic reasons (not recommended). Long story short, I have built a transmission, rebuilt the engine, and addressed a laundry list of hydraulic issues.

I have a factory service manual (grandfather that owned the original 180 I grew up with was a Massey mechanic), but I do not have the specialty tools. And he passed away several years ago, so I can't ask him how to make the adjustments without the tools.

The lift top was a mess. The vertical lever was bent, was missing one of the thumbscrews, both thumbscrew springs were broken, the main plate was warped, and that is nothing compared to the condition the lift pump was in.

I have gotten close to having things adjusted (or I think so anyway). I have a full range of control for position (draft up/hydra-lever in position range), but when I put the hydra-lever in position, I blow the relief valve and the lift arms are fully raised at about half to two thirds the range on the draft control.

From reading through the forums, Big Dean had a CD with information on it regarding the 100 series tractors. Does anybody have the pages regarding the lift top and pump adjustments that they would care to share for a pressure control lift? Or does anybody have any thoughts on where I should start to adjust/re-adjust the draft controls?

If it adjust's like a 65,here's where I've had a problem. The top link of 3-point push'es and
pull's on large spring which move's a 1/4tr" rod connected to one of the "fingers" that operate
pump. All the manuals tell you how to adjust fingers but not how to calibrate the *$#^% top link.
Only way I've found is to remove cover and set it on the bench to alow watching rod while adjusting
top link spring.

Hi, at the point where the 3-point stops rising , is the linkage all tight
or can you lift it by hand to where you would expect the maximum lift
point to be? Having the tools to set the relationship between the
rotational position of the main hydraulic shaft and the pump control
valve is essential. When set correctly the control valve MUST be in
the neutral position before the ram arm strikes the casing. If you are
able to make the tools I have dimensioned drawings to work from.

Hi, the 35/65 hydraulic system is similar in principle to the 100 series but the operation is different.

I still have a little room left at the top when I'm in position control. But on the draft side it maxes out and blows the relief. But even when using the position lever, it is still coming up plenty high.

I can make some tooling at my place. But I have a former class mate that has a machine shop that I could probably convince to make them for me, or let me make them at his shop. So if you would share the drawings, that would be much appreciated.

It isn't quite that same on a pressure control lift top as it is on a 65. But thanks for the suggestion.

I've been around and worked on Masseys off an on for most of my life, but the one thing that I haven't had to work on is the lift top. And this 180 is the first one that we have ever owned that had pressure control. Our original 180 only had draft and position. So it should have been pretty close to what is on your 65.

Hello, I don't mean to hijack your thread but I've been attempting to track down the tools required to adjust my lift cover as well. I've tried dealers, Ebay, OTC customer service and everything n between. A google search brought me here. I have a MF 283 Brazil. Is it possible to get the dimensions/spec for the tools from you?
