Injection pump timing issue

Doing some investigating last night on my tractor, I removed the oil filler spout from the 1964 35X perkins diesel. Rotated the crank to TDC on compression stroke for piston 1. Then back to static BTDC lines and noticed my pump is timed for 24 degrees (middle line in pic) which puts the E line on the pump in line with the square end of the circlip in the pump. The scribe mark on the side of the timing case and the pump flange are not there. They don't exist even with removing the paint but the pump flang is mounted dead centre on the slotted holes of the pump mounting flange.

My pump is LW58/600/2/2390 CAV 3230010. According to the Perkins manual the 3.152 with LW58 is to be timed at 22 degrees BTDC.

BUT the specification pic posted on a previous thread by John Deere D shows my pump number CAV 3230010 to be timed at 20 degrees BTDC. His tractor is the same as mine and 1963. Although I don't know his pump code if it is LW58 to see what the Perkins manual shows.

I'm not sure what to line it up with. The current 24 degrees seems to be out of spec either way. But the tractor ran fine before the rebuild. Pump or timing gears never removed. But this pump replaced the original with same numbers before we bought the tractor 4 years ago. Whoever installed it may have installed it wrong.

I'm wondering if the pump drive gear is not lined up with the large idler gear wheel under the timing cover and instead of getting the right tooth on the pump gear meshed that someone just used 24 degrees. Or would it be deliberately done to compensate for poor performance and have the pump timed sooner then say 20 or 22 degees? Any input is much appreciated.

Now is my opportunity to install it correctly but I gotta have the correct BTDC static timing degrees.

Use the scribe line on the pump flange, the snap ring inside MIGHT not be set in the correct spot anyway. Latest test spec stopped setting the snap ring. Long as the gear
marks align the pump will be timed right IF the gear dowel enters the pump drive hub slot. Pumps WITH advance unit are usually timed later than non advance equipped pumps
are.
