Drove over 250 miles today to look at a MF65 tractor that supposedly had 4 new tires. remotes, power steering, gas engine. The tires were
very good trea but far from new. Fronts were heavily weather cracked, rears were not too bad. power steering would work to the right but not
far to the left. Switch had been replaced with a push pull type similar to the old Farmalls. Push button switch for the starter which worked
sometimes. Remote bypass valve was frozen solid so the 3PH won't work, water definitely in the hydraulic oil. They said it had low hours,
which I doubt because of the overall condition and the fact that the hour meter said 800= hours but did't work. Needless to say I was POed.
why does anyone advertise something knowing it is a total falsehood?

Hi, what a pain in the proverbial? Just imagine if you had bought it over the telephone on their description. Some people have no conception of what is good and what is not.......lot of tread so tyres must be good! In this day and age it’s easy to send photos before travelling a big distance. Makes life so much easier to be able to scrutinise something before travelling.
You are a wiser man for this.

Much the same happened to me years ago . A five hundred km round trip from Melbourne to Rosedale and back to look at a " newly reconditioned MF135" .
It looked like it had been painted with the back end of a possum and blew more smoke out of the dip stick hole than the exhaust.
I could have kicked the bloke in the @r$e but I'm too much of a gentleman for that .

Had some pics but you can't see weather cracking or a frozen selector valve or water in the oil on a pic. At least it was a nice day for a ride in the air conditioned car when it was 90 degrees and humidity at 90%.

Indeed not. Have one of my best customers looking for a Ford 5610 that is above average condition. Found one about 250 miles away. Have a lot of photos which I’ve scrutinised closely. Happy with what I have seen but photos don’t tell you if the engine is breathing or there is a whine in the gearbox or backend. It is essential to go to see anything but at the same time you have to be prepared to come away empty-handed. Fortunately it doesn’t happen very often as all the homework has been done. Keep looking, something will come up and hopefully nearer.

some know its wrong and some simply dont know. but the tach. says 800 hrs.! thats the last thing i look at.

Low hour MF 65 that's a joke. 1964 was a long time ago. I can remember when they came out new, quite a tractor. They sure seem to get a lot of modifications to the starting system. Usually a screw driver to short out the solenoid. Didn't sound like anything you could not fix. Did you make him an offer.

Wanted waaay too much for it $1975. It needed a lot of work to make it usable. Might have been more interested if it was a diesel. I have a 65 diesel row crop which I have gone completely through including complete motor overhaul with a new crank. Now if I just didn't hate painting so much.
