Massey 135 wont crank after running for 30 minutes

I have a MF135 with a Perkins diesel. When cold it will start and run fine. Cranks as soon as you turn the key. Then.... After running for 30 minutes or more if you turn off the tractor it will turn over but not start.

If you leave it sitting and it cools down for several hours it will start right back up no problem. I have resorted the just leaving it running if I need to do something.

I recently changed the fuel filters and the battery (not sure if it has much to do with the problem).

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

A severely worn injection pump hydraulic head will cause that trouble, no start when hot. Have a 1135 pump apart now for the same trouble, hydraulic head needs replaced..

Hi, I would also check the valve tip clearances. The couple of thou increase when hot might just be enough to loose enough compression when the engine is hot. This could occur if the tappets are 'tight'. Also check the fuel tap strainer and gauze in the lift pump if you have a glass bowl type fitted.

I too would have the pump checked. Remember that heat expands metal. I once had a diesel engine that behaved exactly as yours does. 3 diesel mechanics
could not figure it out. I finally went to an old injector pump specialist. He recognized the problem right away. The pump solenoid had a hairline
crack in the outer wall that expanded so much with heat that too much air was getting in causing too lean a mixture to fire. He replaced the solenoid
and that solved the problem.
