Thanks for the reply. You have helped me figure it out but it doesn't look good for the tractor or at least not good for the tractor mechanic. A pressure plate release lever is broken. While I was investigating the things you told me of I spotted it. It must have been at the 12:00 position the other times I was looking, it all looked good.
Well I felt it had nothing to do with adjustment. I felt it quite strange that the clutch worked and felt fine until the moment I restored the tolerances to the external linkage? That alowed me to make an adjustment that obviously was needed for a sloppy dedal. So I guess the only connection with what happened inside was that for the first time in a long time I was able to depress the pressure plate inwards more and that broke it, otherwise it would just be a big coincidence. Remember before I could not depress the pto or actuate the safety start switch. Now the safety switch is working but the clutch is broken.
I will try to post a photo of the broken part.
I am a retired industrial refrigeration mechanic I can overhaul a 400 hp chiller, but this is my first tractor clutch so I will need help. I have an IT manual and I have an actual Massey shop manual on its way to my post box. I figure I am about to learn how to split this tractor.. Any one who has done this is to feel quite free to give me advice. It will be tremendously appreciated. It's a 1963 65 diesel with a broken clutch. Thanks,Bruce
