MF 50A instant reverse clutch pack

I?m new to this forum. Working on a 1973 mf 50A with an instant reverse clutch pack. I tore the entire thing apart and replaced all the clutch disks and clutch plates because the fella I picked it up from said the forward gears went out. The transmission parts came to me all thrown in a box and I?m putting it back together with the manual for reference. I?m stuck on getting the input shaft to slide down over the output shaft and securing it with the locking ring. The input shaft won?t slide down far enough. I can?t pull the hub up any higher than it is because it?s secured to the output shift at a certain point with a c-clip. There doesn?t appear to be anything preventing the shafts from sliding together the way they should be. Any ideas for the new guy on the block? Any help would be greatly appreciated. See pictures for reference.

Hi, not the same tractor or problem but have recently reinstalled the clutch packs on a MF 4200 series 24/24 shuttle. Initially failed to get the reverse pack on far enough onto the gb input shaft . It was being blocked by not being able to close the sealing to fit inside the R clutch pack with it's square face. I machined a chamfer on the housing and it went on at the first attempt. Not your problem but it might help to find the cause.

Thanks for the reply David. I didnt end up finding the culprit. Cant remember what it was exactly. Something wasnt pressed in all the way I dont think. Something silly for sure and I was just too embarrassed about it to share and now I cant even remember without having the whole assembly in front of me. I wish I wouldve made not of it though cuz I wouldnt put it past me to make the same mistake again if I need to tear this thing back apart which it looks like I might. Forward gears arent engaging. I can shift into forward just fine but when I press the forward pedal, it just revs up. The linkage appears to be working properly as well. Im in the process of swapping out the iso 46 I threw in there with some all purpose hydraulic fluid but i dont seem that being the issue means that I was able to go into reverse. One step at a time though. Ill get it going eventually.
