MF 40 Manuals, which ones to get?

Many thanks to Brown swiss and Jackangel for their help in working out the model of my MF 40.

I now wish to buy a manual for the MF 40 Loader Backhoe so I can work out where everything is, Oil filling hydraulic etc. Is there one manual someone can recommend or does it depend on the year of manufacture. I was told it was a 1982 but can not confirm that 100%.

I just want to make sure I use the correct oils and what everything does.

Thanks In advance

I doubt it's 1982. It may be an early 40, but the later ones had much different hood/dash sheet metal and any of the ones I've seen had hydrostatic steering. I've never seen one that had a park brake
mechanism like that. I'm in Canada. That doesn't mean it wasn't offered. I have seen it or similar on European tractors. Also your loader has the controls on the left, which from my experience means
older rather than newer. Here, anything from the 70's and up has right side controls. The loader frame looks very similar to my 34 loaders, but I've never seen that style bucket linkage on one. They all
had self levelling buckets incorporated in the hydraulic control valve. Are you in NAmerica? Does it have FWA or just the heavy tires? That would point to late 70's, 80's. Is it instant reverse or
clutched? All that said, the specified oil for trans, 3pt, steering, planetaries, loader and hoe will likely be Permatran. Operating instructions for the unit will likely be the same as any early 70's or later,

Hi MKinON Sorry for not responding sooner, for some reason I was not notified of your post.

When I bought the tractor the previous owner advertised it as an 80's model. There is only one plate on the whole tractor & that is attached to the Backhoe which calls it a MF40.

I am in Australia and that plate also says "Made In Australia", I read somewhere regarding the fact that it had square guards as opposed to round made it newer, but that still did not give me an age.

It has instant reverse, I dont think it has FWA, I have seen no evidence of that. Again many thanks for replying.

Go to Google, type in AGCO pubs . com (remove the spaces, this site doesn't let me link other websites)

These are factory Massey Ferguson manuals and are the best you can get. Do NOT buy reprints.
