Hey guys I am going to be renting a chipper/shredder that tows in back of a vehicle. Being that it is pretty large I was hoping to hook up a trailer ball and hitch it to my 290's draw bar assembly. Could it handle the weight of a Vermeer chipper/shredder?

Spray Rig??? Off hand I would say your tractor will handle most chipper/shredders the size a home owner/light contractor type rental place would have, which I am guessing you will be renting. Likely 4000 to 6000 lbs and can be towed by a 1/2 ton pickup, using a bumper pull ball hitch.

As for balance of the tractor when towing. Is your tractor 2 or 4 wheel drive, with or without loader, are you towing it on flat ground or expecting to go up the side of a mountain with it?

For a better, more precise, answer you need to provide the model, total weight and tongue weight of the chipper. "pretty large" isn't much info and our idea of pretty large may vary. Pretty large to me means 400+ horsepower, fed with a pulp/log loader and taking 16" and larger trees, used for chipping and blowing biomass fuel into 40ft. + box trailers. Many are dual axle to be towed by a vehicle, i.e. pulp trucks or road tractors.

It is a Vermeer 1000XL.

It has a 480lb tongue wait with 4800 pounds overall. My 290 is a 2wd...flat ground...the tractor is red....I weigh 219lbs....I plan on going slow..

Can it handle it?

That tractor should be able to handle that. A round baler with a full bale in it should weigh a bit more than that.
