MF65 low oil pressure, 20psi

I any ideas for figuring out what is wrong, pump, cam bearings, crank bearings? Can the pump be rebuilt with just dropping the pan -
kit PN#OPK65A? With the pan dropped should I use plastic gauge on the crank bearings?

Thanks.

1st thing I would check is the gauge. My 65 showed low oil pressure 10psi. I hooked up a new gauge including line. Instantly went to 30 psi, Higher psi at higher RPM. Gauge is cheap, installation is a pain. Those old gauges have been out in the weather for many years.

Thanks, maybe a digital gauge would help. Just looked at the manual I have and at idle is 15 psi@450 rpm and 20-30 psi @2200. I normally run it around 1200-1300 rpm, 15-18 psi. The governor/carb definitely needs adjusting to get 2200 rpm. Not very good at the governor adjustment yet, have tried many times through the years.

My Continental Z134 4 cylinder gas engine in my MF2135 industrial has about the same oil pressure. If you are running say a 5w30 motor oil you could always go to a thicker oil (I use 15w40 Shell Rotella), but as long as it's not making any knocking noises (and if a different gauge shows better oil pressure) I don't think you have too much to worry about just yet.

Ya don't need a DIGITAL gauge. Just find a new one and plumb it into the line. The old one might be good, it might be bad. You don't need to wire in an electric powered gauge in any event.
