I have a F40 with manual steering. I recently acquired the tractor and the steering box seems to have been leaking a little for a while.
I can not find a way to check the oil level. I can take out the fill plug, but can not get a stick down into the interior to check the oil level.
What oil is recommended?
Also have heard that "00" grease is a good remedy for a leaking steering box. ????

Helpful advice appreciated.

Pump some John Deere corn head grease in, you can get it in tubes to fit inside a grease gun. You could also use Lucas hub oil that's used in the hubs of big trucks, it's a thick, very tacky oil.
