MF Super 90 Diesel pros - cons

I have been looking for an older diesel tractor in the 60 to 70 hp range and with price range of 3000 to 4000. There is Super 90 coming up in an auction with low hours, and from the pics and seeing it run, it seems in pretty good condition and without multi-power. I have never owned a diesel or a MF, so my question here is, is this tractor worth getting if I can get it for a low price? Are there any inherent problems that would keep you from getting this model tractor? Since it has Perkins engine, I assume that all the parts are easy to to find if I have to do an overhaul in the future? Are all the other parts available , like power steering parts or hydraulic parts?

I'm surprised someone else hasn't answered yet. I'm not the foremost expert on the Super 90, but will tell you what I can. The 85 and Super 90 were a unique design and don't share many parts with other MF models. The Perkins 302 is basically a good engine, but some have been known to blow the head gasket between # 2 and 3 cylinders. They have independent PTO with a hydraulic clutch pack. The main clutch pedal only has to be depressed half way to stop ground travel or shift gears. If it is depressed all the way it dumps the pressure on the PTO clutch, so it can also function like a 2 stage clutch. The pressure for the PTO clutch is supplied by the power steering pump. These pumps do wear out. You will have to ask someone else about availability and price of a replacement. A Super 90 with lows hours that has been well cared for could be a bargain. Just remember it is at least 55 years old.

I was looking at the power steering pump and it costs $1000 to replace it. Can you buy kits to rebuild them?
